At a time when childhood obesity has become an epidemic, and the economic recession continues to make it difficult for families, our friends at Skateland in Northridge announced a great, free project to help kids stay fit and have fun.
As part of Kidsskatefree.com, Northridge Skateland is offering free passes for kids to come to Skateland every week. Parents, just register online at kidsskatefree.com/skateland to start receiving two free skating passes per week per child.
According to the American Heart Association, one in three kids in America are overweight or obese, triple the rate from 50 years ago. Obesity has also been linked to high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, depression, and other physical and psychological problems.
Through Kidsskatefree.com, Roller Skating Centers across the nation have joined to fight cihldhood obesity. Roller skating provides a complete cardio-aerobic workout of the entire body, and burns 400 to 600 calories per hour.
For years, Skateland has been offering a safe, fun place in our community for kids and families to gather, have fun, have parties and fundraisers, and get some great exercise. They also are active members of the community, and supports numerous charitable and community-building causes.
