We express our deepest condolences on the sudden passing of BONC (Board of Neighborhood Commissioners) Commissioner Joy Atkinson on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
During her many years of dedicated service, not only on the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners but in many other civic roles, she served with compassion and kindness and she was someone who truly listened to and engaged with everyone who had something constructive to contribute.
Without exception, the many text messages we have received from dozens of Neighborhood Council leaders from throughout the City have expressed heartfelt sadness as well as appreciation for Joy’s life.
She will be truly missed by all of us.
